Vacation Short Term Rentals
Information on the City's policy regarding vacation and short-term rentals, including current regulations and enforcement considerations.
At the February 9, 2023 Commission Meeting, the City Commission discussed the policy direction for short-term rentals or vacation rentals in the City. The Commission came to a consensus to uphold the current zoning ordinance regulation for rentals not less than 60 days.
Current Policy Direction
Prior to taking formal action to uphold this policy, the City Commission requested staff to provide a code enforcement plan. The plan would provide an organized and effective approach to addressing non-compliant rentals. The City Commission has received the proposed plan and will discuss it at a Commission meeting to be announced.
Policy Options Considered
Hundreds of properties currently held out as vacation/short-term rentals
Most have residential rental business licenses restricting rental terms to 60 days or more
Code Compliance has numerous complaints and cases being held awaiting policy direction. If policy direction is to prohibit them, cases will be adjudicated.
Require management rules and oversight ordinance
Cannot regulate rental duration or rental frequency
